Monday 22nd April - Wednesday 24th April
Line up confirmed: Meshell Ndegeocello - bass, vox, Chris Bruce – guitar, Jebin Bruni – keys & Abe Rounds - drums
Fearsome bassist, vocalist and prolific songwriter, Meshell Ndegeocello has the creativity and curiosity of an authentic musical force. Mercurial and masterful, she has eschewed genre for originality, celebrity for longevity, and musicals trends for musical truths. She has earned critical acclaim, the unfailing respect of fellow players, songwriters and composers and the dedication of her diverse, unclassifiable fans who have come to expect the unexpected from her and faithfully followed her whether she’s pumping out funk, booming hip-hop, and tortured soul or surging towards the heights of jazz. Indeed Meshell covers the entire spectrum of Great Black Music with brio – and then goes even further.
Meshell returns to Ronnie Scott’s following her magnificent 2013 shows in which she performed music from her album ‘Pour une âme souveraine (“For a sovereign soul”), a dedication to Nina Simone. Performing classic Nina songs she superbly illustrated her elder’s fragility and complex personality, her spirituality and her enduring legacy. For these shows, Meshell included music from her current album (released in 2014), Comet, Come To Me, a collection of groove driven, infectiously melodic and lyrically meditative songs that finds her returning to the same well of creativity that launched her career. Expect a lush, vocal, seeking and wise set, driven by the signature bounce and precise pocket of Ndegeocello on bass.
Joining Meshell Ndegeocello on bass and vocals is Chris Bruce on guitar, Jebin Bruni on keys & Abe Rounds on drums
