Nevada Street Four is a quartet  featuring  some of the UK’s finest exponents of 20s and 30s Jazz.   The members of the group have worked with names such as Nat Gonella,  The Inkspots,   The Pasadena Roof Orchestra and John Dankworth to name a few.  Currently,    all four musicians are touring with the Bryan Ferry Orchestra,   and are  featured soloists on Ferry’s acclaimed album The Jazz Age.  They can also  be heard on  the sound track to Warner Brothers’ recent release,  The Great Gatsby.

 Performing a varied mix of New Orleans  classics and  Tin Pan Alley favourites,  the quartet also delights in singing specially arranged 4-part vocals of  tunes by George Gershwin and   Hoagy Carmichael,    among others.  Delivered with a high standard of musicianship  and entertaining  camaraderie,  here is a band not to be missed!

Malcolm Earle-Smith (trombone/voice)

 Malcolm’s  great love of the jazz tradition in its entirety has made him a highly skilled and  versatile performer,  both as trombonist and vocalist.  His expressive, blues- influenced style has brought him work with    Nat Gonella,  Kenny Baker, John Dankworth,     Andy Panayi,  Martha Reeves and Bryan Ferry.  He has produced two CDs of his own;  “Lyric Trombone”  (1996),  and “Thing are Looking Up”  (2007).   A committed educator,  Malcolm is a professor at Trinity College of Music where he serves as lecturer and director of Trinity Jazz Ensemble.

Richard White (clarinet/bass saxophone/voice)

 Richard is an original stylist.  A   multi-instrumentalist, he  is equally at home on bass saxophone as he is on clarinet, and is also known for his an expressive vocals.   He can be heard every Thursday with Colin Good  at the  Quecumbar,   Battersea.    In the 1990s,  Richard  toured the USA four times  with the Rio Trio (alongside Martin Wheatley and Richard Pite).  He is now  also involved in theatre work and works with several other specialist 1920s and 30s bands.

Colin Good (piano/voice)

 Colin  has a wonderfully swinging piano style reminiscent of Earl Hines.   Accomplished in both jazz and classical music,  he  is in constant demand as a pianist,  organist,  arranger and MD.  In his early career,  Colin toured with the Inkspots,   then went on to direct  Vile Bodies Big Band which was resident at the  Ritz  for many years. He has recorded music for radio,  TV and film.  Colin has been Bryan Ferry’s arranger and MD since 1999, appearing on several of Ferry’s albums and touring worldwide.

Martin Wheatley  (guitar/voice)

 An   inventive and versatile    guitarist  (steel guitar, banjo, ukulele),  Martin specializes in musical styles of the 1920s, 30s and 40s Jazz, Blues, and in recent years, Hawaiian!  He has played with most of the top Vintage Jazz stylists in the UK including Keith Nichols, the Charleston Chasers and Matthias Seuffert. He has toured the USA extensively, recording CDs with violinist Andy Stein and trumpeter John Erik Kelso.
