Building on a rich and lengthy history with legendary trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Ronnie Scott’s is delighted to welcome the Wynton Marsalis Quintet back to the club this summer for 6 exclusive shows over 3 nights...
Wynton Marsalis is arguably the most influential jazz musician of the last 40 years. His take on the music’s history, his virtuoso trumpet playing, sense of tradition and leadership as the Managing and Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center has inspired a new generation of ‘young lions’, putting him at the very forefront of the music internationally. In addition to winning nine Grammy Awards, he was the first jazz musician to receive the Pulitzer Prize for music. His international accolades include honorary membership in Britain’s Royal Academy of Music and the insignia Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest distinction. He has more than 70 albums to his credit, which have sold more than 7 million copies worldwide.
Wynton Marsalis is an internationally acclaimed musician, composer, bandleader, educator and a leading advocate of American culture. He has had an enormous impact on jazz over the last 40 years, being one of the first artists to perform and compose across the full jazz spectrum from its New Orleans roots to bebop to modern jazz. By creating and performing an expansive range of brilliant new music for quartets to big bands, chamber music ensembles to symphony orchestras, tap dance to ballet, Marsalis has expanded the vocabulary for jazz and created a vital body of work that places him among the world’s finest musicians and composers.
Marsalis has graced the world’s greatest venues from the Lincoln Centre and Carnegie Hall to London’s Barbican Centre and Royal Albert Hall. Almost seven years ago, in August 2006, Marsalis marked the opening of the revamped Ronnie Scott's Club. We’re delighted to welcome the iconic trumpeter back for what promises to be an exhilarating week of music. Marsalis will perform two shows a night for 3 nights starting July 22nd in what looks to be this summer’s hottest ticket.
