In 1959, saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the door to a small basement club in London’s west end where local musicians could jam. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs attracting packed houses and the biggest names in jazz and popular music and Ronnie Scott’s welcoming, stylish setting is also home to London’s coolest late night hang.

Each night Monday to Saturday, after the main act, Ronnie Scott’s presents the Late Late Show, where some of the UK’s finest jazz talents take to the stage for a late night blowing session.

‘Thornton is a player with a strong technique who uses the range of the bass well, and is capable of great depth, emotion and lyricism.’ – Rob Edgar, londonjazz.blogspot.co.uk

Bassist Tim Thornton is a regular performer on the British jazz scene and graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire. He comes from a very musical background with his parents Neal Thornton (pianist/composer) and Sally Burgess (Mezzo Soprano/Director) influencing his early interest in the music world. His debut album ‘New Kid’ (SEHSO05) features Dave O’Higgins, Steve Fishwick, Ross Stanley, Grant Windsor, Chris Draper and Dave Hamblett performing a mixture of original music and arrangements.
He is a regular member of the Ronnie Scott's Allstars lead by James Pearson and also performs and has recorded with many different groups including the Steve Fishwick Quintet, Emma Smith Quintet, Brandon Allen Quartet, Tim Lapthorne Trio, Dave O’Higgins Quartet, Ivo Neame Quintet, Joe Pisto Quartet (Italy), Gilad Atzmon Quartet, Sector 7 and the Julian Bliss Septet.

Tim has previously worked with Stan Sulzmann, Eric Alexander, Jim Mullen, Will Vinson, Guy Barker, Sir Willard White, Marcus Printup, Gary Husband, Nigel Hitchcock, Alex Garnett, Anita Wardell, Jeff Williams, Georgia Mancio, Derek Nash, Stan Tracey, Liam Noble, Steve Brown, Tom Cawley, Ernesto Simpson, Jim Hart, Ross Stanley, Nick Smart, Kit Downes, Martin Shaw, Jay Phelps and Matt Skelton to name a few.
