Kate Williams/Mike Outram Quartet  featuring Kate Williams - piano; Mike Outram - guitar; Jeremy Brown - bass & Steve Brown - drums

The quartet will be playing jazz standards, as well as pieces by piano legend Bill Evans.

Kate Williams has gained a distinctive reputation as a pianist and composer. She has released several recordings, including the critically acclaimed Smoke And Mirrors with the legendary tenor saxophonist  Bobby Wellins. Her latest CD, Atlas & Vulcana, is a further reflection of her colourful originality, featuring her trio, quartet and septet.

" Williams' lyricism, polish and subtle touch make this one of her most accomplished and personal ventures" The Guardian

"A superbly lucid and inventive pianist and composer" BBC Radio 2

Mike Outram is one of the UK's foremost guitarists who is sought after as an improviser and for his ability to contribute a unique voice to any musical ensemble. He has toured internationally with Tim Garland, Carleen Anderson and Herbie Mann, and regularly works with various UK musicians including Jacqui Dankworth, Martin Speake, Dylan Howe, and  Tony Woods.

"There is no musician with such complete control of the sounds coming out of a guitar. Mike Outram plays the sweetest wailing rock guitar in Britain. It's a sound of great beauty." London Jazz News

KATE WILLIAMS

Jazz pianist/composer Kate Williams was born in London into a musical family (her father is the guitarist John Williams, her mother a classical pianist). A recipient of the John Dankworth Award For Talent Deserving Wider Recognition, she has gained a distinctive reputation as both a writer and performer.

She has released several CDs, each one to critical acclaim. Her most recent one being 'Smoke And Mirrors', a live duo recording with award-winning Scottish tenorist Bobby Wellins. "The opening bars of "Smoke And Mirrors," one of three jointly composed tunes on the album, set the standard: languid, relaxed interplay between tenor saxophone and piano that has the effortless ease that can only come from players in total command of their craft." (Bruce Lindsay, All About Jazz)

In 2011, she recorded with her new septet featuring Gareth Lockrane, Steve Fishwick, Ben Somers, Julian Siegel, Jeremy Brown, Oli Hayhurst, and Tristan Mailliot. 'Made Up' was released in October 2011, and was ranked 7th in Mojo's top jazz albums of 2011. The septet was nominated for a Parliamentary Jazz Award in March 2012.

She has also performed with many of the UK’s leading musicians, including Stan Sulzmann, Nikki Iles, John Etheridge, Anita Wardell, Georgia Mancio, Dave Cliff, Tony Woods, Tim Whitehead, Julian Siegel, Karen Sharpe, Allison Neale, and is a member of Chris Biscoe's Mingus Moves. Kate currently teaches on the jazz degree course at Middlesex University.
