The JAZZ VERSE JUKEBOX, the 'most exhilarating' night of spoken Word & jazz, returns Upstairs @ Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, London, on Sunday 14th September 2014 with special guests including: ANTHONY ANAXAGOROU / RICHARD TYRONE JONES/ AGNES MEADOWS / BRIDGET MINAMORE
Since its inception in 2009, the Jazz Verse Jukebox, (the brainchild of broadcaster & Vocalist Jumoké Fashola), has welcomed established poets & musicians such as Lemn Sissay, Soweto Kinch, Michael Horovitz, David Grant & Anthony Joseph. Join us for what promises to be a thrilling night of diverse spoken word & jazz from some of the freshest exponents on the scene. Plus live jazz trio & Open Mic. With cushions to lounge on, cocktails to imbibe & surprises, this diverse night is one night not to miss!

ANTHONY ANAXAGOROU (@Anthony1983)
ANTHONY ANAXAGOROU is an acclaimed poet, writer and educator. He has published 8 collections of poetry and is currently preparing for the release of his first collection of short stories that will be out later this year through Jacaranda Books. He teaches poetry and creative writing in schools across London. He gives lectures on creativity and how poetry can be used as a means to tackle mental health issues. In 2012 he set up one of London's leading poetry nights Out-Spoken. His work has been studied in universities in the US the UK and Australia as well as being translated into Spanish, Japanese and French.

Richard Tyrone Jones' work ranges from the amusingly daft, through the witheringly self-deprecating to the multilayered, poignant and formally innovative. It is always cut through by a strong vein of ironic humour, bold imaginative leaps, a strident voice and a deft technique.
A versatile and experienced spoken word poet, writer, host, broadcaster, educator and event organiser. Creator of stage shows 'Big Heart' (also a radio 4 sitcom), 'What the F*ck is this?' and soon, 'Crap Time Lord'. Author of books 'Germline' and 'Big Heart (and other complications). Director of 'Utter!' Spoken Word and of Spoken Word at PBH's Free Fringe.

AGNES MEADOWS is a London-based award-winning poet/writer, who has toured nationally and internationally, giving readings, workshops, and residencies all over the world, most recently in Babylon, Iraq. She has written five collections of poetry (Flipped Eye/Waterways), with a new collection coming out in late 2014, and a historical novel in the pipeline. Agnes has advised Chanel 4 on Poetry, and run Loose Muse Women's Writers night which celebrates its 10th birthday in London in September this year, and which also has satellite events in Manchester and Cornwall.
BRIDGET MINAMORE (@Bridgetminamore)
BRIDGET MINAMORE has been reading and performing her own spoken word poetry since she came third in the Roundhouse's annual Summer Slam in 2009. She became an Associate Artist with her poetry collective, Rubix, at the Roundhouse, and they released their debut spoken word album RED on iTunes/Roundhouse Records in 2012. She has since won various slam titles around London including Farrago and Hammer & Tongue, and has been published in anthologies such as Burning Eye Books' Rhyming Thunder and Tongue Fu's Liminal Animals. She has also had her work exhibited at a TEDxLondon conference and performed at places ranging from 10 Downing Street to the Southbank Centre and the King's College Cambridge Women's Dinner. She was recently shortlisted to be the first Young Poet Laureate for London.

The monthly JAZZ VERSE JUKEBOX has been described as "the perfect jazz poetry party" (Michael Horovitz). It's where established and upcoming spoken word poets & singers gather to share their artistry. The brainchild of broadcaster & vocalist Jumoké Fashola, 2014 Upstairs @ Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Soho, features an amazing line-up of artistes continuing the age-old tradition of intertwining jazz and performance poetry, plus a unique 'jukebox' OPEN MIC allowing the audience to showcase their skills of jazz improvisation or spoken word.

Jumoké is the creator and host of the monthly Jazz Verse Jukebox at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club (Upstairs) London. She currently presents Inspirit with Jumoké Fashola, BBC London 94.9's Sunday Breakfast magazine programme (5.30am - 9am). She presented The Ronnie Scott's Radio Show on Jazz FM. Other radio credits include, Late Show (BBC London 94.9fm) You and Yours (Radio 4) Pause for Thought (Radio 2), Everywoman (BBC World Service), Good Morning Sunday (Radio 2). Her TV credits include the Holiday Programme (BBC1), Summer Holiday (BBC1) Summer Praise (BBC1). Jumoké has sung most musical forms from Handel to Gershwin to Gospel to Bernstein, at venues including the Royal Albert Hall and the London Arena. Her solo repertoire comprises an edgy blend of jazz, R&B and soul, eloquently expressed and dynamically delivered. Her Debut Album, The Condition of Being A Woman is out now.
