Smooth, sophisticated and stylish. In this special concert Janet Seidel and her trio perform a selection of songs from her album Don't Smoke in Bed: Songs in the Key of Peggy Lee.
Spanning the genres of jazz, cabaret, lounge and easy listening, she is one of Australia's most prolific recording artists and performers.
As a trio, they have achieved international recording success, releasing 18 CDs, and have received widespread acclaim for live performances on radio and in venues ranging from concert halls to jazz clubs.
In this intimate cabaret concert, Janet and her trio pay tribute to Grammy Award-winning American jazz singer, songwriter and actress Peggy Lee, who is best known for her collaborations with Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones and more.
Janet Seidel's voice has been ranked by critics with those of Peggy Lee, Doris Day, Julie London and Blossom Dearie, and has earned her the title Australia's First Lady of Jazz.Press release:
One of the joys of international touring for musicians is the chance to collaborate with fresh combinations of players and audiences. For the Janet Seidel Trio, touring from their base in Sydney, Australia, the U.K. is ideal, with so many very good players with myriad skills and experience.
One of the highlights of the last UK tour in 2014 was playing with the uniquely talented Irishman Gay McIntyre*, now in his early eighties and possessing a breathtakingly natural approach to jazz. In an era largely dominated by youth culture, where ageism often marginalises artists of experience, audiences may often miss the chance to experience musicians with a lifetime of experience, with a fine pedigree which like a fine wine, takes many years to develop.
Janet and Trio are still touring the world playing music wherever they can find a welcoming audience, and likewise always in search of finding perfection in their breezy approach to music making.
In Australia, Janet has recently been augmenting the group with a very young drummer, Joshua Morgan, and in contrast for the UK, the trio is happy to collaborate with another living legend, drummer Cyril Bevan, now an octogenarian, with a wealth of professional experience from many years with Winifred Attwell ( a firm favourite of Janet and David's late father), 16 years at London's Talk of the Town and so much more. Like Chuck and David, he has worked with a who's who of the music business over many years. A full list can be provided for anyone in doubt .....
Janet, Chuck and David look forward to having Cyril on hand wherever possible to expand the trio to a quartet, or more if circumstance permits!
