“Jeremy Sassoon – The Ray Charles Project” -
Manchester-based Jazz & Blues singer/pianist Jeremy Sassoon returns to Ronnie Scotts for 4 more shows following his memorable sell-out debut at the club this summer during the London 2012 Olympics, and once again he brings a stunning line-up of musicians comprising London and Manchester’s finest.
Jeremy’s Ray Charles Project was first launched at the Manchester Jazz Festival in 2009, with Jeremy assembling a team involving tenor saxophonist/arranger Iain Dixon (Michael Brecker, BBC Big Band, Bryan Ferry) and guitarist Mike Walker (Impossible Gentlemen, Mike Gibbs, George Russell) and since then the band has received rapturous responses wherever it has performed. The show features a 4-piece horn section, 3 backing singers (the Jaelettes) and has a mix of well-known Ray Charles classics (Georgia, What I’d Say) and lesser known gems from the late great ‘Brother Ray’ (The Jealous Kind, This Little Girl of Mine). A 17-piece big band version of the show was also launched in November 2011.
Jeremy kicked off 2012 performing at the “A Trane” Jazz Club in Berlin in January with his quartet, teaming up with drummer Michael Kersting (Jaco Pastorius/Bireli Lagrene trio). He has also played the North Sea Jazz Festival, The Iridium Jazz Club (NYC), The Jazz Café. He has regularly toured Spain and entertained at The Americas Cup Final sailing regatta in Valencia. He has also performed in San Francisco, Sydney, Brisbane, Hong Kong, Austria and Switzerland.
Jeremy released his debut solo jazz and blues album “Coming Out” in 2011. It was featured on the Jazz FM playlist and he was recently featured on the Jazz FM Discovery Show in September 2012.
