In 1959, saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the door to a small basement club in London’s west end where local musicians could jam. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs attracting packed houses and the biggest names in jazz and popular music and Ronnie Scott’s welcoming, stylish setting is also home to London’s coolest late night hang.

Alex is a freelance jazz saxophonist and teacher who divides his time between North London and Cambridge. He plays Tenor, Soprano sax and clarinet and is an active composer.
Alex is currently leading a quartet featuring Parliamentary Award Winning Pianist John Turville (Tim Garland, Gilad Atzmon) as well as US drum legend Jeff Williams (Stan Getz, Joe Lovano) and rising Bass star Sam Lasserson (Stan Sulzmann, Julian Arguelles). The band has recently played numerous gigs in and around london including great sets atThe Oxford, the Salisbury Arms and The Geldart, a monthly Jazz night which Alex runs in Cambridge. Alex is looking to tour with this group in the summer/autumn of 2013 and hopefully record the project on the back of this.
A lot of influences feed into the quartet music, many from Alex's parallel interest in composition- composers such as Berg, Bartok and Messiaen and the carnatic music of Southern India as well many jazz influences.
Alex is also active as a sideman recently having performed at the London Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scotts in a band Alex co runs with rising piano star Sam Leak.
